WHAT IS SPREAD THE LOVE?
Spread the Love is a campaign that seeks to harness people and resources to restore dignity and hope to children and the learning communities within public primary schools in Kenya and beyond. By creating opportunities for people to plug into social and community impact, the campaign focuses on improving the learning conditions of our public primary institutions, with the goal of achieving one million hours of community service annually.
Through the years, the Spread the Love initiative has been instrumental in fostering change within our community, impacting individuals, school and society as a whole.
WHEN DID THE INITIATIVE START?
The Spread the Love initiative started in 2009, and in it’s early years, there was a strong focus on serving both correctional facilites and police stations around the country. Through the years, the campaign undertook significant infrastructure development, social support services, remote parenting programs, and discipleship initiatives at six prisons in Nairobi and one in Mombasa, Kenya.
In addition, work has been undertaken in six police stations in Kenya and one in Uganda, where initiatives such as painting and renovation works, landscaping, empowerment programs and ditribution of welfare packs took place.
In 2016, the inititiave has since changed focus to serve pubic primary schools.
WHY PRIMARY SCHOOLS?
Following the introduction of the Free Primary Education program in 2003, aimed at providing more opportunities for out of school children, public primary schools experienced increased enrolment. Within one year of implementation UNESCO reported that over 1.5 million out of school children joined various public schools.
However, school facilities and infrastructure proved to be a challenge, as classes became congested with limited physical facilities, sanitary and hygiene toilet facilities. The Spread the Love campaign has in the last nine years adopted over 20 public primary schools, and mobilised people and resources to uplift the standards of the infrastructure.
HOW ABOUT MLOLONGO PRIMARY SCHOOL?
It’s been five years since we last showed up as a church at Mlolongo Primary school-and our impact still speaks. In 2019, through the Spread the Love campaign, we built a washroom block and painted parts of the school, bringing dignity and vibrancy to a struggling public school environment.
Now in 2025, we sense the call to return – to love louder and go deeper.
WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR 2025?
1 – building Classrooms
The current learning spaces are overcrowded and stretched beyond capacity. If feasible, we aim to construct at least one new classroom block to restore dignity and create room for growth
2 – feeding a child
Many children rely on the school for their only meal of the day. For just KES 60 per week, we can ensure they’re fed, focused, and full of energy
3 – mentorship of the boy child
The boys at Mlolongo need more than supplies—they need identity, direction, and encouragement. We’ll provide mentorship sessions and dignity packs (boxers, socks, soap) as a way of saying: You matter too.
4 – lab coats for teachers
Equipping teachers with 40 branded lab coats as a token of appreciation and professionalism, to boost their morale and presence in class.
5 – Resolve drainage challenges
Sort out drainage challenges in and around the school
HOW CAN YOU PARTNER?
At the heart of Spread the Love lies the concept of strategic partnerships. By collaborating with schools, government agencies, and local communities, we’ve been able to amplify our impact and effect lasting change. However, we cannot do it alone!
