FLOOD RESPONSE

The East African region has in the past few weeks been hit by relentless downpours of rain, way above the expected rainfall averages. This has led to storms and flash floods, and has triggered a massive humanitarian crisis.

According to the Red Cross, Kenya alone has experienced over 50 fatalities, close to 15,000 families displaced and over 30,000 acres of arable crop land affected. The need for humanitarian assistance is significant, with the following items being the most immediate areas of need:

Drinking water
Shelter
Sanitation & hygiene products
Utensils

As God’s people, our response must be to defend and provide for the most vulnerable amongst us.

Isaiah 1:17 reminds us that we must “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the
cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow”.

As Mavuno Church, we are calling on us to respond in generosity and compassion, by doing one of the following:

DEVOTE TIME TO PRAYER

Psalms 34:17 tells us that ‘the LORD hears his people when they call to him for help’. We want to call on the Lord collectively that there will be

a cessation of the heavy rains

God’s intervention over the families of those affected

DONATE RESOURCES

We have already partnered with various organisations on the ground to provide practical support, but we are calling on each one of us to contribute any amount of cash – whether large or small, towards relief efforts. These will go towards:

Setting up a food kitchen

Purchasing food, water and other essentials
