TURNING

Mavuno is not about information, but transformation. Exciting worship and hearing God’s word every Sunday are the means to an end, not an end in themselves. Being at Mavuno should result in life-change for people; as seen in their work, parenting, marriage, dating etc.

From the believer who has walked with God for many years to the seeker who has not yet given their life to Christ, we want the testimony of each person at Mavuno to be Im not what Id like to be, but Im sure not what I used to be – I have changed! We want Mavuno to always be about turning, or transformation.

ORDINARY PEOPLE

Jesus began with where people were before leading them to where God wanted them to be. For instance when he met Peter, he’d just spent whole night of fishing without catching a single fish. Quite a dilemma for a businessperson who needs to meet his overhead costs, pay monthly salaries and pay taxes! And before calling Peter to his purpose, Jesus led him back into the lake and helped him with his business problem. Meeting ordinary people where they are.

Mavuno is about real people with real issues encountering a real God. We are keen to never be a place where people ‘play church’ as hurting people pretend that all is well with their lives. We believe that if the gospel is real, must have practical answers for the real issues that ordinary people face every day. And so we focus on meeting people where they are in order to move them to where God wants them to be.

INTO FEARLESS INFLUENCERS OF SOCIETY

But Jesus doesn’t just stop with bringing a solution to our needs and with affirming our aspirations. He also takes aspirations and adds an eternal significance to them. Jesus’ kingdom agenda adapts and completely takes over the disciples agenda. Peter and Andrew move from being ordinary fishermen to being fisher’s of men, people who would turn the whole world upside down.

This is why we exist

We exist to see real people with real issues, coming to Jesus, having their lives transformed, and becoming change agents to transform society. Our focus is to enable every member of Mavuno to become a fearless influencer in one of the sectors of society. As a result, our city, nation and continent will be transformed positively. The sectors are:
