FIRST FRUITS

In Biblical times, when harvest time came, God called his people to bring their “first fruits” – the first yield from their harvest to him as an offering. This demonstrated their obedience and reverence for God, and showed that they trusted Him to provide for them.

The Hebrew word for first fruit is ‘bikkurim’—literally translated to ‘promise to come’. The Israelites saw these first fruits as freeing their future. God told them that if they brought their first fruits to him, he would bless all that came afterward.

In 2024, we are challenging every single person who considers themselves part of our Mavuno church family to give a first-fruit offering this year, the equivalent of one month’s income/salary. We are believing God that each year, we will begin to settle our various campuses into permanent properties that will allow them accelerate their ministry capacity and be able to turn even more ordinary people into fearless influencers of society.

HOW TO MAKE A FIRST FRUITS PLEDGE

In Biblical times, when harvest came God called His people to bring their ‘fist-fruits’ – the first yield from their harvest to him as an offering. This year, Mavuno Church ...is encouraging everyone who considers themselves a part of the Mavuno Church family to do the same.

A pledge can be made via the Mavuno Church app, and this video shows you exactly how you can do that. The App is currently available on the Google Playstore, and can also be accessed from https://www.mavunochurch.org/firstfruits.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FIRST FRUITS AND TITHIING?

To give a tithe means that you give a tenth of your income to your church. Tithes are generally given throughout the entire year. Tithes are meant to be given in an automatic sense of obedience after you receive your income–e.g., paycheck, commission, bonus.

First fruit offerings are typically an annual gift to the church done at “harvest time.” Because we’re not actually harvesting crops, the harvest can mean different things to different people. paybe you prayed for a job and you just got your first paycheck. Or Perhaps you just got a bonus at work. Or you are in business and you’ve got a big client in your business who has paid you their first cheque. Maybe you’ve just received the first dividends from your investments or your first rent cheque. Or maybe it’s the first paycheck of the year. These are all harvest time moments when your hard work paid off. These are also great opportunities to turn back to God in gratitude for the blessings.

  • WHAT ARE THE RESOURCES BEING USED FOR?

Many of our Mavuno Campuses exist as tenants on properties that do not belong to them. Whereas leasing allows for the Mavuno movement to grow and spread quicker, it does bring with it significant challenges, including lack of long-term security, exposure to unreasonable rent hikes, difficult proprietor relationships.

Our desire is that each year as we give our first-fruits, we will work towards settling various Mavuno campuses into their own properties.

  • WHAT IF I AM IN BUSINESS AND DO NOT HAVE A SALARY?

Our call is to consider giving the equivalent of one’s months income. We ask that each of us prayerfully considers a sacrificial amount that aptly reflects this.

  • HOW DO I GO ABOUT MAKING A PLEDGE / PAYMENT?

We have a simple and intuitive mobile app that, regardless of what country you are in, can allow you to make your payments. Contributions are also available via various platforms, including mobile money, bank transfers or personal cheques.

However regardless of which way you choose, we encourage you to access the mobile app and create a personal account that will help both you and the church keep track of pledges and fulfilments.

  • HOW IS MAVUNO ACCOUNTABLE WITH THE RESOURCES THEY COLLECT?

As a church community, we believe in the power of accountability and transparency. We believe we are called to be good stewards of the resources that God’s people commit to His house for His work. As a result, we find it critical that we not only comply with the governing authorities and their requirements of us as a registered society, but more so that God’s people can know how their resources (tithes and offerings) are being utilised to further the cause of Christ in our generation.

We routinely make our audited accounts available for public perusal, and you can find a link to them HERE (https://www.mavunochurch.org/our-audited-accounts/).
